    January 25th  2023



    Please remember that snow should be left on the ground.  Do not throw or kick the snow at others or try to push others into it.  Students who don't follow these expectations will be assigned Lunch Detention the next day if it happens at lunch time or After School Detention if it happens before or after school.

    Chess Club Update:
    "Are you in the chess club? There is a tournament after school next Thursday Feb 2nd in Mrs. Piper's room. Please let Mrs. Piper know if you plan to attend!"

    Athletic Update:
    Congratulations to the c-team boys who beat Yakima Tribal last night 54-16.  The c-team and jv girls played hard-fought games against Toppenish, losing both by scores of 22-46, 11-59.  

    Nice job to the wrestling team who traveled to Granger last night to compete in a league dual.  

    Friday night, be sure to attend the basketball games vs Cle Elum.  First game starts at 4:30.  

    Yearbook Update:
    The GHS Yearbook team is looking for student life pictures! All pictures need to be in by next week - February 1st. Pictures need to be school appropriate and fun. Email pics to Reanna Oswalt at reanna.oswalt@gsd404.org.

    Counseling Update:

    Last Chance: Are you interested in learning a new language?  We are excited to offer a new Sahaptin Language & Culture course for 2nd semester during 7th period!  Students will be learning the basics of this Native American language and will also have the opportunity to learn more about Native American culture. This class is open to all students.  If you are interested, please email Mrs. Lee ASAP and we can try to work it into your schedule!  It can count as a foreign language credit or elective credit

    CBC Running Start Students--EVF's for Spring Quarter will be processed at the college.  Please fill out your EVF  ASAP and get it to Mrs. Lee. The updated form is on the Google Classroom.

     

    Juniors & Senior--representatives from Columbia Gorge Community College in The Dalles will be at GHS at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 7th to share more information about applying to their college, financial aid and scholarships.  Please make plans to attend!

     

    Are you interested in taking the SAT at GHS on Saturday, March 11?  If so, sign up by February 10 by going to SAT.org, paying the registration fee and uploading a picture.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, see Mrs. Lee for a fee waiver.



    Seniors--We are sharing a lot of scholarships on the Senior Google Classroom!  Be sure to check them out!  Local scholarships will not be open until February after we have a meeting with all seniors to share how to fill them out.




    Gear Up Updates: -

    College trips:

    Looks like winter weather came earlier this year than usual.  We will have to postpone the trips to Oregon until 2023. Students on the list will have first priority.

     

     

    Tutoring Updates: 

    We are nearing the end of the semester, be sure to take advantage of our tutoring options to get your grades up before then.


    Do you need a private investigator to take care of your "homework problem"? Detective Kauffman is on the case! Stop by the high school library after school. Homework help available everyday till 3:30 and Wednesdays till 3:00 by Ms Kauffman.

    Need to improve your math grade? Here's your chance! The math department will be holding tutoring sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays until 4:15pm. Stop by to get help on your homework, study for that test coming up, or just to check your understanding. Mondays will be held in Mrs. Piper's room and Tuesdays in Mr. G's room. Snacks will be provided to get your brain ready for learning!
